Injured Veterans to Participate in Ride 2 Recovery's CycleFest at Historic Natchez Trace Parkway
Ride 2 Recovery and UnitedHealthcare have announced the Natchez Trace Cyclefest, a one-day cycling event at historic Natchez Trace Parkway near Franklin and Leipers Fork, Tennessee, to support injured veterans' rehabilitation.
Hundreds of veterans wounded during service are expected to participate in the Saturday, April 9, ride that is also open to the public. Participants will have the option to ride a 14-, 36- or 62-mile route along the Natchez Trace Parkway.
The ride will begin and end at the Garrison Creek Pavilion. Registration will be held from 7 to 8:45 a.m., or register online. The start times for the ride will be staggered: 8:30 a.m. for the 62-mile ride, 9 a.m. for the 36-mile ride and 9:30 a.m. for the 14-mile ride. Cyclists are welcome to participate, and the public is encouraged to gather along the route to support the injured veterans.
Ride 2 Recovery, in partnership with the Military and Veterans Affairs Volunteer Service offices, benefits military mental and physical rehabilitation programs that feature cycling as the core activity. Funds raised by events such as the CycleFest support the participation of veterans including the purchase of bikes, helmets and other equipment. Bikes are often custom fitted to the physical needs of each rider. UnitedHealthcare is the 2011 presenting sponsor of Ride 2 Recovery's cycling challenges scheduled across the United States and in France.
