Antique Faire
Hohenwald, Tennessee
Date of Event:
March 10, 2011 - March 12, 2011Event Description:
The Antique Faire is sponsored by the Hohenwald/Lewis County Chamber of Commerce, Lewis County and the city of Hohenwald. The popular show is hosted by John and Jill Ford, owners of Memory Junction Antique Company in downtown Hohenwald. They are busy at work making preparations for the 8th annual event set for March 10, 11, & 12. "We have many collectors who have come every year," says John, "Several even come from as far away as Alabama and Kentucky."
Two changes that the Fords made last year have proven to be very successful. "First, we expanded the Faire to a three-day event," says Jill, "Then we moved the location to the restored Strand Theatre downtown." The Strand is a historic movie theater that was lovingly restored three years ago and now plays host to art shows, concerts, special movie presentations and community theater. The Fords say that there is a special charm that the old theater has that enhances the antiques that are on display. One big bonus of the new location is its proximity to the Memory Junction Antique Company. "The theater is right on U.S. 412 at Maple Street and next door to us", says John, "that means it is easy to find, park and shop both venues."
Another bonus for shoppers has been expanding the Antique Faire to a three-day event. "The extra days allowed many more people to get to the faire," says John, "I think our attendance doubled." One thing that won’t change this year, however, is the quality of the antiques offered for sale. Popular dealers from around the region will be back with their best items including Fenton, Depression glass, estate jewelry, Victorian and other antique furniture. But there will be some new faces this year as well. "We are expanding to use all of the space in the theater," says Jill, "So there will be some additional dealers this year with wonderful things you won’t want to miss."
If you already own an antique you want to learn more about; Sue Thompson, the "One Woman Road Show" will be available for appraisals on Saturday, March 12th, from 10 am until 4 pm, at Memory Junction. The cost will be $20 per item.
