Natchez Trace Parkway Closure from Milepost 204.3 to 214.5

NATCHEZ TRACE PARKWAY REOPENS BETWEEN US HIGHWAY 82 AND MS HIGHWAY 15
Tupelo, MS - The Natchez Trace Parkway reopened to traffic between US Highway 82 and MS Highway 15 on Tuesday, August 23, 2011. (Parkway Mileposts 204.3 – 214.5)
On April 27, 2011, this area of the Parkway sustained significant damage from tornados generated by the outbreak of severe weather. As a result of the storm, this section of the Parkway had been closed to allow cleanup crews to remove debris.
Roadside cleanup operations continue just north of MS Highway 15 at milepost 228, and visitors are advised to still exercise caution when traveling in the area.

Natchez Trace Parkway officials announce a closure from milepost 204.3 to milepost 214.5 (50 miles south of Tupelo) due to the impacts of recent storms. On April 27, 2011 there was significant damage done to trees on the Parkway by the outbreak of severe weather.
To remove the damaged trees in an expeditious manner, the Parkway will be closed beginning May 23, 2011 from milepost 204.3 to milepost 214.5.
Northbound traffic will be rerouted beginning at milepost 204.3 via US 82 east to MS 15, then
north back to the Parkway at milepost 214.5.
Southbound traffic will be rerouted beginning at milepost 214.5 via MS 15 south to US 82, then
west back to the Parkway at milepost 204.3.
Parkway travelers are encouraged to take precautions through this area. Additional travel time should be less than 10 minutes. This detour is expected to be in place until August 30, 2011.
Note: This is the only closure/detour on the entire length of the 444 long Trace at this time. Flooding along/near the Mississippi River has not affected the parkway.
