Two Couples from South Carolina Drive the Natchez Trace
Natchez Trace trip taken March 11-14, 2011
Randy, the Crosses and Georges enjoyed our trip from Natchez to Nashville on the Trace so much and we owe it all to your help with the planning and handling reservations. Just wanted to say thank you.
We're so glad we added Rosswood Plantation B&B in Lorman, MS and spent our first night there. After stopping at Mt. Locust and getting the history of that stand, the story was rounded out with the tour of Rosswood. Lunch at the Old Country Store Restaurant was the feast that we were promised.
We toured Vicksburg on the afternoon of the first day and after the huge midday meal we took cheese and crackers to the upstairs porch at Rosswood and enjoyed the evening there. Peggy's fabulous biscuits and other breakfast fare set us on our way for day two.
The next night at Mamie's Cottage B&B in Raymond, MS proved to be a great stop. Enjoyed getting to know Charles and Brenda. Ate at The Gibbs Store that night - another delicious and sumptious meal. Brenda served yummy pancakes for breakfast and gave a most interesting tour of the house.
Delightful evening at Bridges-Hall Manor B&B in Houston, MS with yet another delicious dinner and breakfast.
We found Ridgetop B&B in Hampshire, TN about mid-afternoon but drove to Mt. Pleasant and brought sandwiches for a later evening meal that we enjoyed inside the house.
Other than Vicksburg, we stayed close to the Trace, stopping at many of the markers. As we listened to Mr. Hendricks telling about his stone wall, the rain began - the only rainy day of the trip. We were so glad that we were able to get part of his story at least - a remarkable project and tribute to his ancestor.
Without your suggestions and pacing the distance between stops, I am sure our time would not have been so well spent. All the innkeepers spoke highly of you. We will certainly tell others about your service as we recall the good time that we had on this important area of our country's history. Thank you for the memorable vacation.
