The Jailhouse Joint diner and gift shop is in Waterloo, Alabama with views of the Tennessee River (Pickwick Lake).
The diner's menu and decor feature a jailhouse theme ("Jailhouse Rock", "Andy Griffith", "Cool Hand Luke", "Oh Brother...") because the old town jail is part of the property. Get off the Natchez Trace Parkway at the Florence exit (Lauderdale County Road 14), turn right, and drive 11 miles west along the scenic banks of Pickwick Lake into downtown Waterloo.
The diner is open 5 days a week, including supper, Thursday-Monday, but the hours change seasonally with lake activity. See updated hours, menu and weekly specials on the diner's Facebook page.
Dine at tables on the covered front porch or inside on stools at the counter. Call ahead orders are welcome!
The diner is known for fresh, hand-patted burgers in 4 different sizes with your choice of 23 toppings, from the 1/4 lb Inmate up to the 1 lb Cool Hand Luke burger. Local favorites include the Philly Cheesesteak, Reuben on marbled rye and Big Dan's Club, a toasted triple-decker on sourdough with Otis' Pickle Fries and Funnel Cake Fries for dessert. We also do not fry in oil, but offer healthier choices cooked in air fryers.
