When Tennessee joined the Union in 1796, this watershed was the boundary between the United States to the north and the Chickasaw Nation to the south.
The Highland Rim Trail section of the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail horse and hiking path traverses past the Tennessee Valley Divide parking area. There is no horse trailer parking at this location but hikers can park here and then hike on the trail either to the north or the south.
