Pontotoc is located in northeast Mississippi about 20 miles west of Tupelo and about 15 miles northwest of the Natchez Trace Parkway.

Pontotoc is a Chickasaw word meaning "Land of Hanging Grapes". Chickasaw lived in this until the 1830s when they were forced to move to Indian Territory through Indian Removal.

The population of Pontotoc was 5,625 in 2010

  • Tanglefoot Trail® Pontotoc Gateway Pontotoc is near the mid-point of the Tanglefoot Trail®. The trail is a 43 mile-long, 10 foot wide "rails to trails" route for bicyclists and walkers.
