Augusta's Abode is named after Augusta Smith, a German immigrant who in 1878, along with her husband Warren founded the town of Hohenwald. Hohenwald is the German word for "high forest," a term that describes the surrounding countryside and its location just west of Nashville on the Western Highland Rim. Hohenwald has the highest elevation of any city between Chicago and New Orleans.
